2023 September U-Picking at Cloverfield Organic Farm

The balmy days of Summer are getting noticeably shorter as we transition into Autumn and the temperature remains fairly hot. September is the warmest month of the year at Cloverfield Organic Farm.

Things that we expect to have available for u-picking in September include the following:

Autumn berries, apples, Chilean guavas, Emeryville pink grapes, tomatoes, three types of basil (Italian, Thai, and Lemon), hot manzano peppers, kale, collards, Swiss chard, rhubarb, squashes, pumpkins, a few figs, cucumbers, horseradish, ginger roots, lemon verbena, mints, elderberries, blackberries, thyme, rosemary, epazote, and oregano. We may have our first ripe pomegranates to u-pick towards the end of September.

We have some beautiful edible flowers for u-picking, including yarrow, cosmos, zinnias, and marigolds.

In the farm shed we have numerous dried herbs, such as hops, marshmallow roots, St. John's wort, epazote, Greek oregano, lemon balm, apple mint, and more. Hanging from the outside rafters of the shed are bundles of heirloom garlic. We also have jars of our raw unfiltered Cloverfield honey and bottles of extra-virgin Black Point olive oil.

September is also a great time for planting. The soil is still warm but the days are shorter; providing nurturing conditions for root growth. We have a selection of potted organic edibles for sale in the nursery area - Asian orange daylilies, aloe vera, elderberries, grapes, fig trees, pomegranates, gazania, strawberries, and more.

Come to visit and u-pick every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from noon to five. We will be open on Labor Day from eleven to four. You don’t need a reservation to come u-pick during our regular u-pick hours. For reserved tours and events, we have alternate times on our website that you can reserve at least four days in advance. Another reserved service that we offer is private horse interactions with Magic Ben, hosted by Karen Rose Mathews. We have free parking at 501 La Paloma Rd. Cash, Venmo, credit/debit cards, Paypal, and EBT are all accepted.

We welcome you to come enjoy the seasonal ambiance and bountiful organic harvest!

Nice, full, informative article. But we're still a full month from start of autumn.

Thanks for article/e-mail, though. Better "too soon" than too late!
